What Notary Journal records for each notarization
Notary Journal is a notary journal app for iPhone. For each notarization you log the date, act type, document, signer ID details, fee and mileage, then capture a signature and an optional thumbprint photo.
Entry fields
Each entry holds the date, the act type, a short document description, the signer's ID details, the fee and the mileage. One entry per act keeps your record consistent from signing to signing.
Signature capture
The signer signs on the phone screen, and the signature is stored with the entry.
Thumbprint photo
You can add a thumbprint photo to an entry when you want one. It is optional, so you only use it when your state or your own practice calls for it.
Fees and mileage in the same log
You track fees and mileage on the same entry as the notarization itself. That way the numbers for a signing sit next to the record of the signing. See the feature overview for the detail pages.
Export for your records, your state office or your accountant
Yes, you can export your journal as PDF or CSV. Use PDF when you need to hand over a record and CSV when you want a spreadsheet for your own totals.
Commission and bond renewal reminders
Enter your commission and bond dates and the app reminds you ahead of time. Renewal steps and deadlines come from your state, so treat the reminder as a prompt and confirm the process with your state's notary office.
Private by design: Face ID and on-device storage
Entries stay on your device behind Face ID. The app does not need an account to hold your journal. Read more on the Face ID and on-device storage page.
Free tools for notaries
Looking for a journal template or a fee lookup? The site has free tools, starting with the notary fee lookup. You can also read whether notaries need a journal and see the state pages.
Check your state's rules
No, the app does not replace your state's notary handbook. It is a record-keeping tool, and your state sets what a journal must contain. Compare options on the paper or app page and read about pricing.
This page is not legal advice. Check your state's notary handbook for the rules that apply to you.
