Florida notary journal requirements

Florida Chapter 117 has no general journal requirement for in-person notarizations, so keeping one is a best practice. Online notaries must keep secure electronic journals and retain them at least ten years. This app is not a remote online notarization platform.

In-person notaries

No general journal is required. Chapter 117 has no general journal requirement for non-online notarizations (Chapter 117, 2025), so keeping one is a best practice, not a rule.

Online notaries

Online notaries must keep a secure electronic journal with a backup. The contents and backup rules are in 117.245(1) and (3)(b) (Chapter 117). Journal copies on request may cost at most 20 dollars per transaction record, and unauthorized access must be reported within 7 days (117.255, Chapter 117).

Retention for online journals

Keep an online notary journal at least ten years (117.245(4), Chapter 117).

Fees

The fee is 10 dollars per notarial act under Part I (117.05(2)(a)). An online notarial act may cost up to 25 dollars (117.275). Both are in Chapter 117.

What this app can and cannot claim in Florida

Notary Journal is not a remote online notarization platform. It is a personal journal and fee/mileage log for iPhone, and it does not make you an online notary or satisfy the online notary journal rules.
