A notary journal is the record a notary keeps of notarial acts. These definitions are general, so use your state's handbook as the authority, see NASS .
Journal

Thumbprint
A print of the signer's thumb, which some states require in certain cases. See thumbprint rules.
Notarial acts
These are the acts a notary performs on a document.
Acknowledgment
The signer confirms to the notary that they signed the document willingly.
Jurat
The signer swears or affirms that the contents of the document are true.
Affirmation
A solemn promise of truth that stands in place of an oath.
Electronic terms
An e-notary is a notary who performs notarial acts electronically, where state law allows it. Florida, for instance, calls these online notarizations (Florida Statutes Chapter 117).
